John Rich (Big & Rich) and Holden Productions announced the first date of the Taking Our Country Back Tour, Saturday, March 13 at the Tulsa Convention Center, Tulsa, Oklahoma.  The rally and concert will feature conservative talk radio and television host Glenn Beck, country artists John Rich and Gretchen Wilson performing in concert, best-selling author Dick Morris, a tribute to the armed forces and more. Combining full-scale arena concert performances with patriotic speakers and inspirational messages, the Taking Our Country Back Tour is the rallying event Americans have been waiting for.

Indiana Convention Center & Lucas Oil Stadium

Indianapolis is a beautiful city, and is often overlooked by businesses seeking a haven for trade shows, conventions, conferences,proms, graduations, and you name it! However, Indianapolis is full of surprises, and one of them might be its convention center!  People are familiar with the Colts’ Lucas Oil Stadium, but many do not realize that the stadium is directly attached to one of the finest convention centers int he world! I understand something called the “NCAA” will have its headquarters here.  Perhaps some of you may have heard of that. . . .  Also, the Indiana Convention Center is the first of only two convention centers in the country that directly connect to a domed stadium!

The Indiana Convention Center is undergoing a dramatic expansion that will grow the convention center from 403,000 to 745,000 square feet of exhibit space when completed in 2010, including 179,000 square feet of exhibit space in the new Lucas Oil Stadium.
The Indianapolis Convention Center is one of the top convention and trade show facilities in the United States.  It can host large and popular events as well as small meetings with equal success and service.

Lucas Oil Stadium opened in August 2008 and features 182,500 SF of contiguous exhibit space including the stadium floor and exhibit halls.  It also has a variety of meeting options including  twelve meeting rooms, Lucas Oil Plaza, Quarterback Club and Bud Light Zone.

The Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium are managed by the Capital Improvement  Board.  The Indiana Stadium and Convention Building Authority is managing the project, Ratio Architects are the lead architects and Shiel Sexton/Powers and Sons are the construction managers.

Friday Feature: EventScope – Social Networking For The Convention and Trade Show Industry

The whole world is getting into the social networking business.  Yes, even the trade show and convention industry is not immune from being caught up in the idea.  This week we are featuring a company that makes networking for the convention, conference meeting or trade show and event business easy and affordable for organizers.  I had a chance to sit down with the a founder at Eventscope. Eventscope is a UK based company that has taken the networking we normally get when attending an event to the next level and beyond.  With the companies like Facebook, Twitter, NING and all the other social sites all taking off this company is offering up some groundbreaking technology all of us should be looking into for our next event.

I had a chance to talk a bit about this cool new application with one of its founders, Hetty Browne, (pictured right).  I loved that this concept was started while her and Ewan MacLeod were sitting eating pizza.  This is the perfect application to be born out of a situation such as chatting over pizza which is what the ultimate social experience.  After speaking to Hetty, they are working now to move their online application to the next level by offering it here in the United States as well.

In our industry of trade shows and conventions we always talk about the face to face experience and how we can get the most from the networking opportunities.  This new and exciting application let’s you network both prior to the event, during the event, and long after the event is done.  I always talk about how hard it is to handle all of those business cards I get, that messy pile of contacts I have on my office floor right now as a matter of fact, and this company eliminates that problem.  I could go on about how much more that is environmentally better than business cards.

This application can also take your branding to the next level as they have the ability to be flexible with your setup.  Think about your other marketing efforts when using this application and how it can help.  They can assist in that area as well.  You can sell branded spots in the system which will help you pay for their service which I think I told them was not nearly enough of a charge.  They are quick to get you set up and can make life easier for your networking needs.

Sounds Like Exercise?!

I have been on the road recently and I have been thinking about the number of places I have seen that had workout facilities.  I was just in Reno and staying at the Reno Peppermill, a write up I have yet to produce of my review of that facility, and they had a great looking workout room with all the latest in technology and equipment.  It just so happens that it was right outside the restaurant I was eating at after that extra dessert. 

There are many hotels with state of the art facilities and I will be soon headed to Hawaii, and yes we guys worry about what we look like in a swimming suit, and am thinking about getting that extra inch or two trimmed down.  There are some great places to stay that have the ability for us to get up in the morning or allows us the nice jog on the treadmill.  I think I may start asking for this feature more.  Do you workout on the road?  What is your favorite place to stay and exercise.  I need to look into this more and report. In the meantime, I think I need to find where I have stored those running shoes.  But first?  Perhaps a little more ice cream with that brownie for an after dinner treat!

No Place Like Miami In Winter

I recently attended an event in Coconut Grove, Florida.  I’m told I wasn’t allowed to refer to it as "Miami".  I did a live radio broadcast from the event and had a little bit of fun speaking as a presenter, and being in the sunshine and warm weather.  To get a recap of the event I wanted to introduce you to some new friends I met while there, Richard and Jeile.

A Convention Maid To Order

I was thinking of the amount of cleaning a stay at home dad like myself does in a week and it made me begin to think of hiring some help to get the work done.  I think I would probably have to have the big boss at to give me a little raise for that to be a reality.  It was time to search out a maid convention or trade show. 

maidconvention The Association of Residential Cleaning Services International held its most recent annual trade show October 22-26, 2007 in Orlando, Florida at the Orange County Convention Center.  The convention was held in conjunction with the ISSA or also known as The Worldwide Cleaning Industry Association

This year the event is to be held September 8-11, 2008.  The event will be held at the ever popular Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.  As Cosby_Approved_Photowith most things in Las Vegas, you can’t hold an event without having an exciting show and this event is no different.   The most interesting feature of the show that makes me actually want to go and see the convention this year is one of its keynote speakers.  None other than a childhood favorite of mine, Bill Cosby.  Or I guess I should refer to him as Dr. Bill Cosby as they do in the program details.   Dr. Cosby is scheduled to appear on September 10, 2008, at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel (adjacent to the Las Vegas Convention Center) in the Barron Room.  This is something I have not yet seen other trade associations do much of and that is to get some decent talent to address the attendees.  The good doctor will be addressing convention attendees according to the program:

I would pay the price of attendance just to get a chance to see this legend in person.  I commend the event planners and would love to see more of this type of thing done at other events!

Conventions and Trade Shows Going Green

shamrock On this day of celebrating all things Irish and the partying and all else, I myself think of “green” as a different idea than drinking beer that bears the color.  I think about the new green movement. Everyone is talking about it these days.  It’s all about the carbon footprint or what we can do to make the world a better place.  Conventions and Trade Shows are doing the same things these days.

I tend to look at many convention and trade show locations and not just the big ones like Las Vegas, or New York, and many of the other huge and more popular locations.  There are sections of websites devoted to the fact that convention or trade show centers are taking their buildings “green”.    Many of them are claiming to be the first or the best, or the leader in the green movement.  I like the fact that they are doing this and I hope that more and more convention centers take on the charge to become green.

Searching For Conventions

I was recently doing some background checking and working on some keywords and phrases as it relates to the search term “convention.”  One of the things that I realized is the highest searched for phrase in that family of searches is “Silver Convention.”  Thinking that people were searching for a convention about the silver industry I decided to see what turned up by searching for silver convention in Google.  I think I really missed the mark on my idea of a silver industry show.
